Abstract
In this paper, an efficient micromachining process, which combines micro electro discharge machining (MEDM) with ultrasonic vibration, is proposed to improve the surface roughness of micromould inserts. The introduction of ultrasound is aimed at improving the surface quality by means of the accelerated expulsion of debris out of the small gap between the electrode and the workpiece. Experimental results show that the surface roughness of the machined workpiece is improved.
