Squamous cell carcinoma is a highly unusual form of gallbladder carcinoma. A detailed case study of this rare disease discovered in a patient sent for a diagnostic sonographic examination is presented. Possibilities for an etiology that is not well defined are explored. Common precursors for gallbladder cancer are discussed along with treatment options for a disease with a grim prognosis. A sonographer’s guide to scanning a mass found in the gallbladder includes a differential diagnosis for various types of masses.
