Abstract
Aim:
To demonstrate the use of inexpensive, routinely available equipment in intraoperative laparoscopic cholangiography.
Methods:
The video shows introduction of a ureteric catheter through a laparoscopic suction device placed in a 5-mm port. Successful cystic duct cannulation and cholangiography are demonstrated using standard laparoscopic instruments.
Discussion:
The commercially available Kumar Clamp and catheter is widely used in intraoperative cholangiography. List price for this equipment is 650 USD for the reusable clamp and 32 USD per catheter. Utilizing a simple ureteric catheter (USD 13) and a standard atraumatic laparoscopic clamp, the consumable cost is a fraction of the price with no additional capital outlay.
Conclusion:
There is an effective, low-cost alternative to the Kumar clamp and catheter in laparoscopic intraoperative cholangiography.
No competing financial interests exist.
