Professional development for teachers is viewed as a necessary part of the ongoing commitment to improving outcomes for children. Music teachers are required to attend professional development (PD) sessions to gain recertification and for continued employment in most jurisdictions across the country. This article explores the benefits and drawbacks of PD for music educators and ways in which to improve the experience and make it beneficial for improving teacher performance and student outcomes.
