Measurements of respiratory function in infants under 12 months of age are reviewed and compared with those in adults. It is shown that allowing for differences in body size the findings in infants are similar to those in older age groups. However, it is important that anyone involved in the respiratory care of small infants be aware of the consequences of the difference in body size as it effects pulmonary function.
