Abstract
Modern computer and communications technologies tempt us to seek new insights into the safety of drugs by pooling data bases on spontaneously reported adverse drug reactions at the international level. The validity of such approaches is severely restricted by myriad differences on how such data are gathered, interpreted and reported from different environments. Available resources will best be used for efforts such as electronic record linkage and understanding of mechanisms of drug effects.
