Abstract
The global integration of data gives rise to special difficulties when there are variations in database design, especially if clinical trials are conducted across national boundaries without standardization. With more emphasis now being placed on distributed worldwide systems for collection and storage of clinical data, a consistent approach must be maintained in the global management of clinical dictionaries. This paper outlines the Rhône-Poulenc Rorer approach to dictionary management across national boundaries. The paper will also discuss the technical and procedural issues with emphasis on dictionary management systems, and the integration into corporate database strategies.
