Abstract
With this first issue of the Journal for 1997, we are pleased to announce two important changes. First, the Journal will now be published monthly! This welcome news comes together with a 19% expansion of our yearly page allotment for original peer-reviewed manuscripts. Our readers will surely greet the monthly arrival of the Journal with open arms, and the combination of monthly format and increased pages will contribute greatly to shortening the acceptance-to-publication interval for manuscripts.
Secondly, with the retirement of Professor A. Murray Harper, at the end of 1996, as Editor of the prestigious review journal, Cerebrovascular and Brain Metabolism Reviews, Lippincott–Raven Publishers has decided to merge the function of that journal with our own, by providing us with extra space to publish, on average, one moderate-sized review article per issue. Dr. I. Mhairi Macrae of Glasgow, the former Associate Editor of Cerebrovascular and Brain Metabolism Reviews, now joins the Editorial Board of our Journal as Review Editor. We bid her a hearty welcome! Timely, in-depth review articles were a staple of our Journal in its early days (under the Founding Editorship of Professor Harper), and we are delighted, beginning with the 1997 volume, to carry out this function afresh.
