Abstract
An overview of adaptive technology for individuals who are deaf-blind. The description includes different basic features that are available in particular types of equipment, including: braille access devices, braille embossers, braille translators, computer screen magnification systems, optical character recognition scanners, closed circuit televisions, and braille/print typing systems. Some additional descriptions of advanced features are discussed. Several hybrid adaptive aids are also described, including: Braille Lite, Telebraille III, Infotouch, Braille Telecaption System, Large Print TDD, Mountbatten Brailler, and Optacon II. A listing of manufacturers/distributors and other additional sources of information follows the article.
