Abstract
A group of polymers has been synthesized using hemoglobin from out-dated blood and starch. These new materials have been characterized with respect to molecular weight, intrinsic viscosity and hemoglobin content. Preliminary studies on the starch-hemoglobin polymers indicate that these compounds will transport oxygen to the tissues, have satisfactory oncotic properties and provide adequate hemodilution when used in transfusion.
