The complex [Zn2(C9H6N7O)4]·5(H2O) has been synthesised by the reaction of 2,4,6-tris(imidazol-1-yl)-1,3,5-s-triazine and ZnCl2. Its crystal structure shows that the Zn2+ is coordinated by three imidazolyl nitrogen atoms and one carboxylic oxygen atom of the 4,6-di(1-imidazolyl)-2-carbonyl-1,3,5-triazine ligand, formed during the reaction. The complex shows fluorescence quenching, which could provide a new method of detecting Zn2+.
