Abstract
Phenanthrene-9,10-quinone reacts with anisole in the presence of SnCl4.5H2O at 180 °C to give 11-methoxybenzo[b] phenanthro[9,10-d]furan and with veratrole to form both the 11,12-dimethoxy and the 10-monomethoxy analogues.
