Abstract
Hydroboration of 3-hydroxy-3-methyl-Δ4-steroids, and oxidation of the borane with alkaline hydrogen peroxide, has been shown by X-ray crystallography to give 4β-hydroxy-3α-methyl-5β(H)-steroids irrespective of the stereochemistry at C-3.
