Abstract
Abstract
A method is presented by which design problems may be formulated, evaluated and developed in order to achieve maximum reliability. The method integrates component failure and functional performance considerations so that a maximum safety margin is achieved with respect to all failure criteria. The method proposed does not rely on failure rate data. Additionally, provided that all parameters are able to be calculated, it is possible to undertake a multi-objective optimization to determine an optimal solution.
