Improved properties of SrFe 12 O 19 synthesised by gel self-propagating combustion technique with glycol as solvent

Abstract

In this work SrFe₁₂O₁₉ is synthesised by gel self-propagating combustion technique with glycol as solvent. The morphology, crystal structure and magnetic properties of the as fabricated powders are investigated with X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis/differential scanning calorimetry and vibrating sample magnetometry. The results show that the coercivity and specific saturation magnetisation of the as fabricated SrFe₁₂O₁₉ are increased to 528 kA m⁻¹ and 59·6 EMU g⁻¹, in comparison with 404 kA m⁻¹ and 57·6 EMU g⁻¹ using water as solvent. The 528 kA m⁻¹ is the highest Hc value recorded for isotropic SrFe₁₂O₁₉.
