Recent developments in ultrasound technology and interpretation suggest that sonographers may be able to distinguish between benign and malignant breast masses more accurately than was previously believed possible. This article reviews and illustrates the sonographic signs that suggest benign and malignant disease, and discusses the accuracy and limitations of the method.
