Hypoplasia is used to define an underdeveloped or incomplete development of a tissue or organ. Hypoplasia of the internal carotid artery (ICA) is a rare congenital anomaly that is infrequently seen or reported. This case study describes multiple sonographic evaluations of a hypoplastic ICA that resulted in misidentification and misdiagnosis of ICA stenosis and ICA occlusion with duplex sonography.
