Abstract
Generally, health care professionals are taught that gallstones found within the gallbladder that are large in size create no potential complications for the patient. However, there are rare instances when a gallstone that is greater than 2 cm can pass from the gallbladder and cause problems. When a large gallstone does pass, a gallstone ileus can occur, forming a fistula and intestinal obstruction. This rare pathology may be difficult to initially detect by sonography, but the use of sonography when comparing with computed tomography can aid in finalizing this unique pathology.
