Heart Meets the Brain—A Case of Right Internal Carotid Artery Native Valve Embolism Following Mitral Valve Replacement Surgery

Abstract

A 36-year-old female developed an acute stroke due to a nonthrombotic biological native valve embolism following mitral valve replacement for severe rheumatic mitral stenosis. The organic embolus was successfully removed from the internal carotid artery bifurcation via mechanical thrombectomy.
