Abstract
Dog bites are a significant public health concern, particularly among children. These injuries can lead to severe physical and psychological consequences. Understanding the epidemiology, treatment, and prevention strategies is crucial for reducing the incidence and impact of pediatric dog bites. Our case study reflects on a 5-year-old patient who was found down by their parents following an unwitnessed attack by the family dog. Our patient suffered the majority of their injuries to their left face and head, with their extremities and abdomen largely unremarkable. Understanding the epidemiology, treatment, and prevention strategies is crucial for reducing the incidence and impact of pediatric dog bites. This report will examine the protocols for treating pediatric dog bites and emphasize the importance of educating the community about precautions for children around known and unknown animals. This is particularly crucial due to the high risk of morbidity and mortality associated with such incidents.
