Corrigendum

Zongo A, Guenette L, Moisan J et al. Revisiting the internal consistency and factorial validity of the 8-item Morisky Medication Adherence Scale. Sage Open Medicine 2016;4: 1-17.

The authors of this paper regret to advise that the following corrections are required in order to correct potential copyright and trademark infringements of the Morisky Medication Adherence scale (MMAS-8).

1) A statement is to be added to Tables 2 and 3, and Figure 1 to acknowledge the copyright of MMAS-8. The correct Table 2 and 3, and Figure 1 footnotes are as follows:

“Use of the MMAS is protected by US and International Trademark Laws. Permission for use is required. A licence agreement is available from: Donald E. Morisky, ScD, ScM, MSPH, Professor, Department of Community Health Sciences, UCLA, School of Public Health, 650 Charles E. Young Drive South, Los Angeles, CA 90095-1772.”

2) The following references for the MMAS-8 were missing. These are as follows:

These references should be cited after the following text of the Variable section “The MMAS-8 was originally developed from a previous 4-item scale (the MMAS-4) by adding items addressing the circumstances surrounding adherence behavior [Morisky et al., 2008; Krousel-Wood et al., 2009; Morisky et al., 2011]”.

3) Moreover, the reference to the France version is to be removed as we used a French version sent by Morisky. The sentence of the Variable section should read as follows:

“We used a French (France) version of the MMAS-8 that we adapted to refer to the use of noninsulin antidiabetic drugs.”
