I m.d.c. iodati impiegati nelle indagini neuroradiologiche presentano una neurotossicità che dipende sia dalla via di introduzione che dal contrasto usato. I m.d.c. non ionici e quelli a bassa osmolarità, pur non essendo privi di effetti collaterali, si dimostrano adeguati a soddisfare tutte le esigenze diagnostiche e presentano una buona tollerabilità.
