We present the MR features of 26 meningiomas with intrasellar extension which can lead to misdiagnosis, and differential diagnostic problems from a pituitary adenoma. We describe the MR appearance of meningioma in relation to the pituitary gland and correlate the imaging findings with those found after surgery. The differential diagnosis and problems encountered in characterization of meningiomas are discussed.
