Abstract
A small number of intracranial meningiomas have atypical MR appearance which can lead to misdiagnosis. We present the MR features of 14 atypical meningiomas.
Meningiomas characterized as atypical either because of their MR features (extensive necrosis, association with large cysts or neoplasms, haemorrhage, scarring) or their location (intradiploic, intraventricular, extradural extension). Four cases (28,5%) were misdiagnosed initially as other lesions based on MR findings alone. In all cases with MR atypicality the diagnosis was confirmed surgically.
