Abstract

Jie WP, Bai JY, Li BB. Clinicopathologic Analysis of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma After 125I Interstitial Brachytherapy. Technol Cancer Res Treatment. 2018;17:1-5. doi:10.1177/1533033818806906
In the above mentioned article, the authors wish to provide the below notice in order to clarify their results and reduce any potential misunderstandings by readers:
They focused on the characteristics of pathological morphology, not clinical data, in their analysis. This article involved a small sample size (76 cases) and happened to be pathologic degree G1 or G2. Accordingly, the 5-year survival rate mentioned in the article may have some limitations because of the small sample size (76 cases).
The authors stated they chose 76 cases because (i) the cases had received seed radiotherapy at least 5 years ago, and (ii) only these cases underwent pathologic examination both presurgery and recurrence. The authors stated the deviation of material selection may influence the reliability of clinical data (5-year survival rate). The exact 5-year survival rate requires more cases.
