Authors’ response to letter ‘Long-term noninvasive ventilation in muscular dystrophy: Need planning of future services’

We thank Drs Fiorentino and Esquinas for their interest in our study. They rightly point out the importance of quality of life for this group of patients, with the need to adapt the home environment and enlist the help of family members as the degree of physical dependence increases. Their suggestion of “Hospital at Home” schemes for escalation of care during respiratory tract infections ¹ seem excellent for avoiding hospitalization. We agree that further studies are needed of these important aspects of care for neuromuscular patients.
