Abstract
This visual essay is drawn from the author’s PhD work and represents his optimal vision of photography. Based on two fieldwork projects on the hawzas, the author’s aim is to set up the terms for a reappraisal of montage as a grammar for the visual, thus contextualizing issues and problems surrounding this particular concept and a similar definition of image, particularly within current trends in multimedia and intermedia work. Through an innovative exploration of aesthetics, the essay contributes to ongoing debates on the role of the visual in social sciences, as well as opening up the field to contributions based on hands-on perspectives and considerations.
