Abstract
Journalism in the midst of a profound structural adjustment. In the last decade digital technology has disrupted print journalism, requiring journalists to rethink how they deliver content to audiences. But disruption has not altered the central mission of the profession. This article considers key trends, including the rise of the reader, the rolling news cycle, the impact of rolling news on the quality of journalism being produced, and the consequences of these changes for political discussion. The article ends with some observations intended for journalists just entering the profession.
