Abstract
Change energizes some organizations and paralyzes others. Research shows that the behavior of managers is the single most important factor in how people in the organization accept change. Self-management by the leaders is essential. There are four predictable stages that everyone passes through when exposed to any change: resistance, confusion, exploration, and commitment. There are predictable behaviors associated with each of these stages and the most effective managers study these behaviors and are able to respond appropriately to get their team back on track toward the goals.
