Abstract
Epidemiological nutrition research has established the correlation between dietary intake and chronic diseases. Today, several years after the mapping of the human genome, vast amounts of knowledge generated from genetics and health research have prompted a new evolutionary field in nutrition: nutrigenetics and nutrigenomics. Much is being revealed about the way genes affect dietary intake (nutrigenetics) and how foods influence one’s genetics (nutrigenomics). This article looks at this new “frontier” in nutrition science.
