Abstract
In this manuscript, the author reflects on their personal struggles related to detecting white savior narratives when watching F1: The Movie. In particular, the author connects his experiences as a Formula 1 sport fan (and researcher) to existing literature regarding white savior narratives and reinforcement of negative racial ideologies and imagery of Black talent in films. The author juxtaposes contemporary sport film narratives with that of lived experiences and historic movies to show the continued prevalence and problematic nature of white savior narratives that affect sport fandom.
