The quality of care provided to children and the approach taken in nursing interventions play a critical role in shaping their healthcare experiences, influencing not only their physical well-being but also their emotional and psychological responses to medical treatment.
Objective
This study aimed to determine the relationship between the quality of care from the perspective of hospitalized children aged between 6–12 and the fear of nursing interventions.
Methods
This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted with children aged 6–12 hospitalized in the pediatric clinic of two public hospitals and their parents. No sample selection was made and the study was completed with 138 children and their parents. Data were collected in face-to-face interviews using the and were analyzed in the SPSS program. Institutional permission and ethics committee approval were obtained to carry out the study.
Results
Children who were afraid of the hospital environment evaluated the quality of care of nurses as low. It was determined that the quality of care of nurses increased their fear of nursing interventions and that children who received information about hospital and health personnel had a lower level of fear of nursing interventions.
Conclusions
Fear of hospitalization reduces children's evaluation of the quality of nursing care.
