Abstract
The concept of a sectoral innovation system is a useful tool for analysing innovation activities and performance at the sector level. The analysis of the renewable energy sector in Vietnam—focusing on solar and wind energy—serves as an example of how this concept can be applied to study an emerging sector. Evidence from Vietnam reveals that the sectoral innovation ecosystem in renewable energy is still in its nascent stage, with relevant actors and linkages present. However, institutional frameworks need to be further developed to make the system more effective. Furthermore, to address issues such as technology localisation and innovation capability, closer partnerships between government agencies, firms, academic institutions, international partners and local authorities must be actively promoted and supported.
