Although efforts have been made to replace the emotion-freighted word “leprosy” with “Hansen's disease” in the last few decades, the original word is used here because it was the one appropriate to the period described.

Gushue-Taylor left an estate of almost $50, 000. The bulk was left in trust to his sisters; this will was dated 16 October 1953. A codicil, written on the SS Ocean Mail, en route from Seattle to Yokohama, 5 December 1953, states his intention to many Annie Senior (“Penlee”, 4 Birdwood Road, Cambridge) and asking that if his death occurred first, she receive from his estate $2000. Miss Senior was a long-time nurse and associate in the missionary work in Formosa. This will and codicil were probated in British Columbia on 6 July 1954. Copy in possession of the author.
