Abstract
In turn, I reply here to Kareen Ror Malone’s response to my paper “Sado-Masochism and Feminist Desire: The Other Measure of True Love Bleeds.” The multiple possibilities of recognition and puzzlement that emerge from my reading of “The Impasses of Encounter: Psychoanalysis and Feminism” are fecund; though the space to consider them here is seriously limited. In place of revisiting questions of form and style associated with écriture feminine, or feminist desire, I’ve addressed some contradictions located where the domain of law and answering one’s accounting don’t meet. Still, at this point my reply is reduced to comments in passing and another couple of stories about encountering impasses. They are stories that, for me, continue to resonate with the relevance of écriture feminine.
