Abstract
Painful bladder syndrome was diagnosed in 26 patients who complained of bladder irritative symptoms. This group included 4 with interstitial cystitis (CI) and 22 with urethral syndrome (SU). Amitriptyline was given to 18 patients (4 CI + 14 SU): 12 showed improvement (4 CI + 8 SU), 6 had no change. TENS was applied to 8 patients: 4 improved. while there was a modest analgesic effect without improvement in urinary symptoms in the other 4. A group of 11 patients treated purely medically in the past was also re-assessed.
