Abstract
Ultraflex is a new type of prosthesis not yet on sale. It is made with a biocompatible single filament in nickel/titanium alloy. It has a considerable radiai force while being extremely flexible and adaptable to the morphology of the urethra. Unlike other traditional, more rigid stents, it allows better epithelisation, avoids irritation and should it be incorrectly placed, is easy to remove by means of a distai pulling thread. Our first experience is reported with 5 patients with urinary retention, 4 of whom regained spontaneous micturition immediately after introduction of the prosthesis. The fifth, probably due to detrusorial insufficiency, regained spontaneous micturition after 15 days and an epicystotomy therefore had to be carried out. In the post-operative stage no patient complained of irritative or painful symptoms for more than 3 days.
