The author explores the containing function of skin disorders, with particular reference to psoriasis, as both a literal and a psychological container. Links are made between the concepts of secondary skin formation (Bick, 1968, 1986), the script system (Erskine & Moursund, 1988), and script identity crisis (Mazzetti, 1996). The author uses a case study to illustrate and expand on the theories discussed.
