Abstract
The ancient Chinese developed the most extensive approach to the energetics of the body without any scientific knowledge or method. In the latter part of this century, researchers such as Omura, Nogier, Voll, Morell, Motoyama, Nakatani, Manaka, Becker, Pomerantz and others have been translating the traditional Chinese practices into scientific terms as well as extending the theory and knowledge about acupuncture and energetic medicine. Nogier’s special contribution was the discovery that the ear can be utilized as an energetic diagnostic and treatment mode for the entire body, and that the topology of the reflexes reiterates the anatomy of the body. Auriculotherapy and auriculomedicine emerged from this work. Nogier's thesis that the ear, in this respect, is a unique part of the body was accepted by contemporary Chinese researchers who pointed to assertions to this effect in the ancient texts. An opposite premise was proposed more than a decade ago., namely, that every part of the body is an energetic hologram exhibiting the same reiterative principle, and having similar diagnostic and therapeutic potentials as the auricle.
