Several books in which the authors have attempted to draw our attention to perceived problems in higher education have been published recently; an example is Bloom's (1987) The Closing of the American Mind. One such issue related to marketing concerns the extent to which students are being educated in the discipline of marketing, as opposed to current pedagogy, which emphasizes marketing practice in order to train future marketing "managers." This article addresses this marketing education issue.
