The use of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) for the relief of pain in palliative care

Abstract

The proposed neurophysiologic mechanisms of action of TENS are briefly reviewed. Recent literature on its use in chronic pain is critically reviewed and modern methods are discussed. Recommendations are made about the equipment and use of TENS in the palliative care setting.
