Abstract
Before January 1993 the UK, along with other members of the EC, will have to introduce a new Standard Industrial Classification system based on the EC NACE Revision 1 for the collection and presentation of industry statistics. This article reviews some of the main industrial classification systems currently in use, the changes and the implications for economists and business information professionals.
