Abstract
A brief introduction to the meaning of temperature, thermal equilibrium and temperature scales is followed by a general description of methods used for calibrating platinum resistance thermometers (PRTs). Additionally, discussion is afforded to some of the more indirect and subtle influences (that are often ignored) at work during the application of calibration and measurement procedures. Also included is a suggested method of assessing self-heating in an environment that is physically non-static. Instrumentation is not considered in detail.
