The introduction of ITS-90 has prompted an investigation of its compatibility with its predecessor, IPTS-68. In addition, criteria that govern the degree of mutual consistency of the ITS-90 deviation functions are derived and alternative approximate forms suggested for use particularly in cases for which explicit expressions are not available.
