Abstract
The Pharmaceutical Inspection Convention (PIC) and the PER are examples of successful intercountry cooperation. Both schemes have served as a bridge between European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and the European Economic Community (EEC)-countries and have potential for further internationalization
A common basis of technical requirements in the EFTA-countries and EEC provides a platform for further cooperation with the ultimate aim of sharing a common pharmaceutical regulatory process. Recently the EFTA-expert group in pharmaceuticals has identified problems in relation to the EEC-Directives and has also started consultations with representatives of the EEC-Commission on topics of mutual interest. The outcome of these first consultations was very positive
EFTA has started to send observers to several EEC expert groups, consultation documents are exchanged and future cooperation has been discussed
