In this paper we describe the Biology Reporting System (BRS) used by G. D. Searle to store and retrieve biological test data. We discuss the flow of biological test data from the investigator through the reporting cycle to storage in the database; the extensive interactive searching capabilities of the system; and the impact of a fourth generation computer language, DATATRIEVE, on the use and usefulness of the database.
