Abstract
This article examines some of the key influences on Heaney from Scotland. Some of his friends and companion poets from Scotland, such as Hugh MacDiarmid, Norman MacCaig, Sorley MacLean and George Mackay Brown seem to have suggested to Heaney more than one poetic strategy and linguistic approach. This article identifies some links and connecting lines of influence and cross-fertilization.
