Sage was contacted by a reader with concerns regarding potential image modification and image duplication.
Concerns were raised about the following figures in the article:
1. Fig. 4 comet assay has highly unusual alignment of cells.
2. Fig. 7A and 8A appear highly similar to each other despite representing different treatments.
The authors responded but were unable to provide the uncropped raw images underlying figure 4. They explained Fig. 7A and 8A studied the effect of different treatments on the same kidney section.
Following review by the Journal Editor and due to the unresolved concerns about image integrity, that call into question the validity of the findings, the Journal Editor and Sage retract the article.
Author Ahmed S Abdel-Latif did not agree with the retraction.
