The decision by Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan to order schools not to open until after Labor Day interferes with local control of schools and sets a bad precedent of making a state policy change encouraged by one sector of business (the tourism industry). State leaders should have mutually supportive education and economic policies and stop pitting local businesses against local schools.
