Abstract
This paper describes the pilot of a residential personal development course designed to enhance the health and self-esteem of primary school teachers. Comments from participants suggested that the aims of the course had been achieved. Changes in quantitative measures of self-esteem provided strong supporting evidence of improved self-esteem. This initiative had a sufficiently positive outcome to justify further research on the promotion of teachers' health and its potential for influencing the development of health promoting schools.
